How to Take Your Dog Shopping

  • Fun and Games

  • shopping

Unless you have a medical reason to do so, you’re generally not allowed to take your dog shopping in the U.S. All but a few American stores have a clear rule regarding the subject, and it’s a rule made visible via a “No Pets Allowed” sign. What’s interesting about this rule is that it isn’t stringently enforced in some other countries. Europe for example, has no problem with doggie customers. So if you plan on traveling to the 2nd smallest continent, you’ll enjoy reading our tips for shopping with a dog.

Why Take The Dog Shopping?

Shopping is an opportunity to spend time with your dog and improve its socialization skills. Even though you’ll window shop, talk to the locals, and buy a few items, your dog will enjoy all the friendly attention she gets from other shoppers and other dogs.

Seek Out Pet Friendly Stores

You won’t have any difficulties entering a pet-friendly boutique. Otherwise known as the de rigueur for dogs, these shops specialize in dog products that both you and your canine friend will enjoy sampling. Of course from this resource, you can get leads on additional pet-friendly stores.

On your own, look for shops that store a water bowl in front of their buildings. That’s a sure sign that you’re at a dog-welcoming establishment.

When In Doubt

If you’re not sure that a particular shop or store will welcome you and your friend, ask for permission before bringing in the dog. Health regulations may require even a pet-friendly establishment to serve food and drinks out side.
