Basset Hound

Basset Hound
Physical Description:

The Basset Hound, a short-legged Bloodhound of sorts, is a medium sized dog with a height reaching to 14 inches and a weight reaching to 60 pounds. Its name in fact, means “low to the ground.” (Note that Hunting Basset Hounds are generally set higher than the heavier, lower set American show Bassets.) Its head is adorned with wrinkles. Deep set brown eyes accompany fallen lower eyelids that show the haw, and ears are long and set low. The short coat is black, tan, and white. Long ears allow the dog to whirl smells to its nose. For such a short dog, the leg bones of this dog are the heaviest of all breeds.

Best Owner and Environment:

The best owner for this type of dog is one who lives in rural, suburban, or urban area.
