Golden Retriever
The Golden Retriever is a medium to large sized dog with a height ranging from 21½ to 24 inches and a weight ranging from 55 to 75 pounds. Males reach 23 to 24 inches tall and 65 to 75 pounds. Females reach 21½ to 22½ inches tall and 55 to 65 pounds. Its broad head accompanies small dropping ears, brown eyes, and black or black/brown colored nose. The Golden Retriever’s soft and thick undercoat sits under a thick, golden – cream --- or red, straight or wavy outer coat. The entire coat is water-repellent and feathering is present on the neck, forelegs, thighs, and belly. Older dogs turn white around the eyes and muzzle. The neck is covered by a ruff, but the dog’s head, ears, paws, and leg fronts sport the shortest hair. Keep in mind that any white markings are show faults.
The best owner for this type of dog is one who lives in a rural or suburban area with an active family. Golden Retrievers make great pets for first time dog owners as well.
