Physical Description: 

The Afghan Hound is a squarely built, large sized dog with a height ranging from 24 - 28 inches, and a weight ranging from 50 - 60 pounds. Males range between 26 - 28 inches and 50 - 60 pounds. Females range between 24 - 25 inches  tall and 50 – 60 pounds. Its long neck and head bears a long conical muzzle and black nose. Eyes are dark and triangular, and the dog’s feathered ears are long and hanging. The feet are long and feathered as well. Afghan Hound tails are long and curved or doughnut-shaped. The long, silky coat can be any color. Hair on the back and face is not long although the top of the head often bears a topknot. Colors include black, cream, blue, brindle, and/or black and tan in solids or unusual patterns. White marks on the head are not preferable.

Best Owner and Environment: 

The best owner for this type of dog is an active (and patient) family that’s experienced with dogs and that lives in suburb or rural area.
