American Staffordshire Terrier

Physical Description: 

The American Staffordshire Terrier is an extremely strong and large sized, muscular dog with a height ranging from 17 - 19 inches, and a weight ranging from 45 – 50 pounds. Males can reach up to 18 - 19 inches and can reach up to 50 pounds. Females can reach up to 17 – 18 inches tall and can reach up to 45 pounds. The entire body is a little longer than its height. Its wedge-shaped head is wide and powerful, and it bears a short muzzle with a large nose. The nose can be any color. Its round eyes are black, and its ears are erect and typically cropped. American Staffordshire Terrier tails are medium length and tapered. The short coat is any color except more than 80% white. If you ever have the pleasure of meeting one of these dogs, you’ll be amazed at its massive strength and build.

Best Owner and Environment: 

The best owner for this type of dog is one who is experienced with dogs and who lives in an urban, rural, or suburban area.
