Yorkshire Terrier
The Yorkshire terrier is a small dog with a height ranging from 7 to 9 inches, and a weight ranging from 3 to 7 pounds. Larger Yorkies are not show dogs, but much healthier and sturdier. Smaller Yorkies are often weaker and less healthy. It’s small and flat skull accompanies a tapered black nose. Its ears are erect and triangular shaped. And the tail is medium length, docked, and positioned a little higher than the dog’s back. The Yorkie’s coat is straight, silky, shiny, and long enough to reach the floor. Long hair on the dog’s head is typically parted so that it hangs down on the sides, or tied into a bow. The muzzle hair is also long, blending into the dog’s chest hair. Adults sport steel blue and tan colors, while Yorkshire terrier puppies sport a black and tan coat.
The best owner for this type of dog is one who lives in a suburban or urban home. Because it’s so small, it makes a great apartment companion. Yorkshire terriers make great pets for first time dog owners as well those who want something to spoil.
Maltese
The Maltese is a small sized dog with a height ranging from 5 - 8 inches, and a weight ranging from 4 - 7 pounds. Its height equals its length. Dogs larger than 7 pounds are not appropriate for showing, and dogs under 4 pounds are not considered healthy. The Maltese’s medium-length head is round and bears a small black nose. Eyes are dark and round, and ears are low and dropped. Maltese tails are long, plume, and arched over the dog’s back. The single, silky coat is flat, usually all white, and hung to the ground. And a top knot holds the head’s long hair out of the dog’s face. Light tan or lemon colored ears are not ideal.
The best owner for this type of dog is an individual with older children who lives in an urban or suburban area. Owner must also agree with high maintenance requirements. Apartment living is just fine for this breed.
Wirehaired Pointing Griffon
The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is a muscular, large-sized dog with a height ranging from 20 - 24 inches, and a weight ranging from 45 – 60 pounds. Males reach up to 22 - 24 inches and 45 - 60 pounds. Females reach up to 20 - 22 inches tall and 45 – 60 pounds. The entire body is longer than its height. Its large head is long and bears a square-shaped muzzle that accompanies a brown nose, a beard, and a mustache. Large eyes sit under bushy eyebrows and are brown or yellow. Medium-sized ears lie flat and hang. Wirehaired Pointing Griffon tails are carried parallel and are docked to a 1/2 - 2/3 length. The double coat has a thick undercoat and a straight wiry outer coat that’s gray, brown, and orange. Its overall appearance looks unkempt, but that’s the official look for this dog. Teeth meet in a scissors bite. Some of the things that can disqualify this dog from competitions are being oversized, an overshot bite, an undershot bite, visible haws, protruding eyes, a chest that’s too wide or narrow, a plumed tail, a solid black coat or dominantly white or brown coat, and a nose that’s any color other than brown.
The best owner for this type of dog is one who lives with older children and who lives in a rural or suburban area (rural is ideal).
Labrador Retriever
The Labrador Retriever is a medium to large sized dog with a height ranging from 21½ to 24½ inches and a weight ranging from 50 to 80 pounds. Males range between 22½ to 24½ inches and 65 to 80 pounds. Females range between 21½ to 23½ inches tall and 50 to 70 pounds. Its head is broad and bears a black or brown nose. Black and yellow Labs have black noses, and chocolate Labs have brown noses. Eyes are yellow, brown, or hazel, and ears drop in a triangular shape. Lab tails are long and thick (even thicker at the base), but never feathered. The tail in fact, is round and often called an "otter tail." The short, straight outer coat is water resistant, and it covers a short dense undercoat. The chest may bear a white spot, but it’s not desirable anywhere else in show dogs.
The best owner for this type of dog is one who lives in a rural or suburban area with an active family. A Lab may thrive with an owner who lives in an urban environment, but only if its owner is willing to take the dog out onto daily, active excursions. Labrador Retrievers make great pets for first time dog owners as well.
Tibetan Terrier
The Tibetan Terrier, strongly resembling a sheepdog, is a square-shaped, small sized dog with a height ranging from 14 - 17 inches, and a weight ranging from 18 - 30 pounds. Its head is the same size as its muzzle and its eyes are large, dark, and spaced wide apart. Long eyelashes prevent the dog’s long head hear from getting into its eyes. Triangular ears are dropped and its feet big, flat, and round – helping the dog gain traction in snow. Tibetan Terrier tails are medium length, feathered, and carried over the dog’s back. The double coat has a soft wooly undercoat and a long wavy or straight outer coat of any color (except chocolate) or combination thereof. The outer coat feels like human hair. Teeth have a scissors bite or reversed scissors bite.

American Eskimo Dog
The American Eskimo Dog is a square shaped, medium sized dog with a height ranging from 9 - 12 inches for toy dogs, 11 - 15 inches for miniature dogs, and 14 - 19 inches for standard dogs. There is no standard weight for toy dogs, miniature dogs, or standard American Eskimo Dogs, however miniature males can weigh between 12 - 20 pounds and miniature females can weigh between 10 to 18 pounds. Standard males can weigh between 20 - 35 pounds, while standard females can weigh between 18 - 32 pounds. Its head is wedge-shaped, and it bears brown eyes and erect v-shaped ears. Its eyelashes are uniquely white, and its nose, mouth, and eye rims are dark brown or black. The entire head is surrounded by a ruff. American Eskimo Dog tails are plumed and curved over the back. The thick double coat is white or white with cream. And both the rump and hind legs sport longer hair. Note that dogs with blue eyes, a height under 9 inches, or a height over 19 inches are not allowed in conformation shows.

Bouvier des Flandres
The Bouvier des Flandres is a powerful, large sized dog with a height ranging from 23 ½ - 27 1/2 inches, and a weight ranging from 75 – 95 pounds. Males can reach up to 24 ½ - 27 1/2 inches and 75 - 95 pounds. Females can reach up to 23 ½ - 26 1/2 inches tall and 75 – 95 pounds. Its large head is wide and bears a wide muzzle and black nose. Oval eyes are brown, and small ears are either cropped erect or dropped. Bouvier des Flandres tails are either set high and cropped to 4 inches, or they’re simply missing. The double coat has a thick undercoat and a rough outer coat that’s black, brindle, fawn, gray, or salt and pepper. This dog additionally has a beard, eyebrows, and mustache. The head and the top part of the back sports short hair.

Australian Terrier
Being one of the smallest of all the terriers, the Australian Terrier is a wide-chested, but small sized dog with a height ranging from 10 – 11 inches, and a weight ranging from 12 - 18 pounds. The entire body is longer than its height. Its head is long and it bears a black nose under a space shaped in a V. Eyes are dark, and triangular ears are erect. Australian Terrier tails are erect and docked. The 2 - 3 inch double coat has a short, soft undercoat and a long, wiry outer coat that’s weatherproof and blue and tan, solid tan, or red. The ruff has a finer texture and a lighter shade. A topknot sits atop the head and teeth meet in a scissors bite. Some of the things that can disqualify this dog from competitions are a lack of muscle development, an all black coat, being down on pasterns, being long in the loin, dark smut in sandy/red coats, excessive muscle development, light-colored eyes, loaded shoulders, loose shoulders, protruding eyes, straight shoulders, tan smut in blue hues, white markings on the chest, and white markings on the feet.
Bearded Collie
Strongly resembling the Old English Sheepdog, the Bearded Collie is a medium sized dog with a height ranging from 20 - 22 inches, and a weight of 50 pounds. Males reach up to 21 - 22 inches and 50 pounds. Females reach up to 20 – 21 inches tall and 50 pounds. Its large head is wide and bears a short muzzle. The shaggy hair under the chin gives the appearance of a beard, hence the “Bearded” part of the name. Eyes are set far apart, colored to complement the coat color, and set under a pair of arched eyebrows. Ears hang down and are carried close to the head. Bearded Collie tails are carried low and medium-length. The shaggy, weatherproof double coat has a soft, thick undercoat and an outer coat that’s black, blue, brown, fawn, and white. Some of the things that can disqualify this dog from competitions are a coat that drags on the floor or ground, a coat with a silky texture, a flat croup, a height that’s over or under the specified measurements, a pointed muzzle, a steep croup, and/or a trimmed coat.

English Foxhound
The English Foxhound is an athletic, large sized dog with a height ranging from 21 - 25 inches, and a weight ranging from 65 - 70 pounds. Males can range between 22 - 25 inches and 65 - 70 pounds. Females can range between 21 - 24 inches and 65 - 70 pounds. Its head is wide and bears a long muzzle. Its large eyes are brown and its short, rounded ears are laid flat to the head. English Foxhound tails are held high and feet are cat-like. The hard, short coat is black, gray, tan, and white. Characteristics that are not allowed include an overshot or undershot jaw.
